Reference Price

No confirmed retail price exists yet; Elon Musk has floated a rough estimate around $20,000–$30,000 for a future consumer version. Musk has said Optimus could go on sale to outside buyers in the second half of 2027, but commercial availability has not begun.

Sensors & Hardware

Built around Tesla-designed actuators, including planetary roller screw actuators. The Gen 2 hand added tactile sensors across 11 fingertip DOF (a 2024 hand raised that to 22), plus a 2-DOF neck and foot force/torque sensing for balance. Public demos have drawn scrutiny over how much behavior was autonomous versus teleoperated; robotindex hasn't independently verified Tesla's claims.

Insights

The specs shown here reflect Optimus Gen 2 (v2.3), the last generation Tesla has fully detailed; a next-generation "V3" has been previewed but its full reveal has been repeatedly delayed as of September 2026. Optimus also isn't yet for sale — Musk has floated a rough $20,000–$30,000 consumer price, but it's unconfirmed. Tesla converted a former Model S/X production line at its Fremont, California factory for Optimus, tearing it down in just 46 days; Musk said in April 2026 that production on the converted line would begin in late July or August 2026, and by July 1, 2026 he confirmed the line was operational and the conversion actively progressing. This is pilot/ramp-up production toward Tesla's own manufacturing volume, not the start of retail sales to outside buyers.

Firmware & Community

Specs reflect the last officially confirmed generation (Optimus Gen 2 / v2.3) per Tesla's own announcements and reporting from Electrek and The Robot Report; Gen 3 ("V3") has been previewed but not fully detailed as of September 2026, per Electrek and Wikipedia's sourced summary. Fremont production-line timing sourced from Teslarati's coverage of the line conversion and Musk's April/July 2026 statements. robotindex does not sell this product — Optimus is not currently available for purchase.
