HOVERAir X1 Family

Featured Personal Drones · Flying
A three-tier line of palm-sized, propeller-caged, self-flying camera drones from Zero Zero Robotics (Beijing) — HOVERAir X1 (base), X1 PRO, and X1 PROMAX. All three launch, follow, and land themselves with no manual flight-stick skill required; they differ mainly in camera/sensor size, video resolution, flight time, transmission range, storage, and rear-facing obstacle sensing. Covered here as one family page rather than three separate entries, since the design and core self-flying feature set are shared across all three.

GPS None on any tier — positioning is Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) + downward Time-of-Flight sensor. Tom's Guide flags possible signal/position instability at altitude as a result.
FAA status All three are under the FAA's 250g threshold (well under, not borderline) — no registration/Remote ID needed for recreational flying. Any commercial/business use still requires registration and Remote ID regardless of weight; PRO and PROMAX ship with Standard Remote ID built in for that case.
Subscription None — the Hover X1 app is free, and HOVERAir states media is stored locally on the drone and downloaded directly to the phone, with "no cloud storage or access to your media unless you specifically decide to share it." No subscription tier for storage or editing was found.

Reference Price

Current official MSRPs are $299 (X1), $499 (X1 PRO), and $699 (X1 PROMAX), per HOVERAir's own comparison guide. Combo kits bundling a case and extra battery cost more than the standalone body price.

Insights

HOVERAir markets PRO and PROMAX as adding collision sensing over the sensor-less base X1, but a detailed independent hands-on review found PRO's rear-only ToF sensors "not very effective in practice" and unable to reliably avoid branches even at low speed, with PROMAX's added sensor described as better but still offering no 360° protection. Separately, Zero Zero Robotics launched a distinct, separate model — the waterproof HOVERAir AQUA — in over 50 countries on May 28, 2026, following a CES 2026 preview. The FCC blocked AQUA specifically from US equipment authorization around the same launch window, as part of an expansion of its "Covered List" targeting Chinese-made drones over data-security concerns, so AQUA is not sold in the US; that block doesn't apply to the X1/PRO/PROMAX line covered on this page, which keeps its earlier US authorizations, but it signals rising US regulatory scrutiny of this manufacturer.

Firmware & Community

Specs compiled from HOVERAir's own comparison guide and support articles (hoverair.com, us.hoverair.com, support.hoverair.com), independent reviews from TechRadar (base X1), Tom's Guide and Maison du Drone (PRO/PROMAX), and Space.com (PROMAX), and coverage of the separate AQUA model's May 28, 2026 global launch and US FCC block (DroneXL, T3, RedSharkNews, Notebookcheck, TechTimes). Flagged as unconfirmed or conflicting above: the base X1's gimbal axis count (official spec vs. one review), whether X1 PRO supports HDR video, exact PRO/PROMAX obstacle-sensor count and placement beyond "rear-facing," the company's total lifetime funding, and founder name spellings. Reviews from The Verge, PCMag, TechCrunch, and DPReview specifically were not located and should not be assumed to exist without direct verification.
